Ponta de São Lourenço
Ponta de São Lourenço is one of the last nearly untouched places in Madeira. Located in the eastern part of the island, this is the place where a fantastic combination of rocks, sea and nature created one of Mother Nature’s masterpieces. You can climb up the rocks and see very little evidence of man’s changes to the island. There are excellent views over both the northern and southern sides of the island and, when the weather conditions allow it, you can even see Porto Santo Island.
Ribeiro Frio
In this Forest Park, the flora of the forest originating in Madeira can be observed, with many plant endemisms present, such as the laurel ( Laurus novocanariensis ), laurel ( Clethra arborea ), tilde ( Ocotea foetens ), mahogany ( Persea indica ), highlighting them there is also the isoplexis ( Isoplexis sceptrum ), the wildebeest ( Echium candicans ), the starlet ( Argyranthemum pinnatifidum ), the mountain orchid ( Dactylorhiza foliosa ).
You can also see some of the island’s fauna, such as the firecrest ( Regulus madeirensis ), the smallest endemic bird that occurs in Madeira and the fearless chaffinch ( Fringila coelebs madeirensis ). Rarer will be the Trocaz Pigeon ( Columba Trocaz ), an endemic species of Madeira.
There is also a Ribeiro Frio Aquaculture Station here, where the rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) nurseries are located, whose objective is to produce trout for restocking the waterways of Madeira Island.
Santana
Characterised by its small thatched triangular houses, Santana is a beautiful village on the north coast. These small houses, built of natural stone and thatched with straw, have served the locals for centuries as stables and dwellings.
With so many attractions to see, it is normal that most tourists have a circle on their maps around Santana as an obligatory place to visit. And yet, with Madeira’s Theme Park another attraction was added to this region’s already wide offer! Opened in October 2004, the Madeira Theme Park, which can be visited all year round, is divided in several nucleuses and includes many attractions for young and old – tourists as well as locals – related to history, traditions and culture of the people of Madeira.
Pico do Areeiro
The Pico do Arieiro Pike, 1818 meter high, is the third highest summit in the Island of Madeira. It is highly advised to climb all the way up to the top of this mountain to enjoy the great beauty of the volcanic landscape and its wonderful views.
Camacha
Camacha is a beautiful village located in a wooded area, over a high plateau, at the Northeast of Funchal, in Madeira. This village is famous for its excellent basketing and its folkloric group.

Tour Details
The Madeira East Tour will bring you to the highest peak accessible by car in Madeira, Pico do Areeiro, which features a spectacular view of all corners of Madeira.
Depending on the cloud coverage, you will either see a fantastic “sea” of clouds or, the iconic terrain that surrounds the island.
Another great stop is Ribeiro Frio. The area surrounding this location is part of the UNESCO site Laurissilva. This ancient forest is home to centuries-old Laurel Trees as well as indigenous flora that is only found in this part of Macronesia.
The main stop of this Tour is Santana. Here you will find replicas of the typical houses that once prevailed as the main housing for the islanders with their thatched triangular roofs. There are a few restaurants in this area and, since this stop will be around lunchtime, enjoy some of the fantastic traditional cuisine Madeira has to offer.
The final stops will be in the Machico area, the place where settlers first set foot on the island. In this area is also Ponta de São Lourenço. The Easternmost tip of the island, where you can take in the amazing view of the rocky cliffs.
